The E. Urner Goodman
Scholarship Recipients

The Recognitions and Awards subcommittee of the National Order of the Arrow Committee is pleased to announce the selection of four recipients of the E. Urner Goodman Scholarship. The purpose of the E. Urner Goodman Scholarship program is to assist Arrowmen preparing for a professional Scouting career by helping to fulfill the financial obligations of their college education.

E. Urner Goodman, founder of the Order of the Arrow, was a teacher before entering the professional service of the Boy Scouts of America in 1915. This program was established as a meaningful, living memorial to the founder of the Order of the Arrow by helping provide needed financial resources that will perpetuate continued high-caliber, service-minded individuals dedicated to professional Scouting service.

The National Committee has agreed to fund $10,000 in scholarships. The 2002 recipients and the amount they will receive include:

Christopher Cairnes will receive $2,500. He is registered with the Adirondack Council, Plattsburgh, New York, and the Loon Lodge. He is a freshman majoring in History at Plattsburgh State University. He is an Eagle Scout and has been a section vice chief and section chief.

Homer Dearmin will receive $2,500. He is registered with the Old Hickory Council, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the Wahissa Lodge. He is a senior majoring in Public Management at Appalachian State University. He has recently completed a term as lodge chief.

Phillip Seth Hill will receive $2,500. He is registered with the Greater Alabama Council, Birmingham, Alabama, and the Coosa Lodge. He is a sophomore majoring in Business Administration at Jacksonville State University. He is a former section chief.

Brock Ostrander will receive $2,500. He is registered with the Great Southwest Council, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Yah-Tah-Hey-Si-Kess Lodge. He is a senior majoring in Public Relations at Eastern New Mexico University. He is an Eagle Scout and is a former section chief.

The National OA Committee congratulates these fine representatives of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow.
