Inductions & Ceremonial Events
 Want to stay cool this week in the North Carolina sun?
Get on ICE. "ICE" is the Inductions and Ceremonial Events
committee, one of three program committees at Indian Summer.
The ICE committee is responsible for all the training and
program related to ceremonies and inductions management.
Under the guise of Program Vice Chief (PVC) Bobby Johnson,
ICE is rolling out the most comprehensive
inductions program ever offered by the Order of the Arrow.
Programs in ICE will be divided between those focusing
primarily on ceremonies and those focusing on inductions
management.
For ceremonial training, ICE is moving beyond anything
ever attempted in the Order's history. At this conference,
ceremonialists will be trained not just how to DO a ceremony,
they also will be trained to BE a ceremony team. Acting experts will
work with ceremonialists on line memorization, movements, and
speech projection--key elements of the most impressive ceremony.
Ceremonialists will also spend time learning about the symbolism
and meaning of the ceremonies so that they may completely immerse themselves in
their ceremonial character.
Arrowmen
who administer the inductions process are participating in a pilot program, the Inductions Management
Seminar (IMS). IMS is a program designed to communicate the how-to of the inductions process from election to call out through
the Ordeal and on to Brotherhood. This program places large focus on the Ten Induction Principles, the guiding ideas
behind OA inductions. IMS is being taught by an all-star staff
including the four region chiefs.
After morning training opportunities, ICE will
provide afternoon opportunities for ceremonial team development and inductions
problem solving. Teams may work with ICE experts to learn how their team can
modify ceremonial techniques; the net
result will be the best ceremony your lodge has ever seen. Additionally,
Inductions Management is sponsoring afternoon 90-minute "open forums." These
sessions, focusing on "other ceremonies (call-out, crossover, etc.)," ordeal
management and brotherhood, among others, will provide participants the chance
to ask questions specific to their our lodge.
The ICE committee has been developing this program since December, 2002,
when they were convened at the National Planning Meeting. The ICE program
will continue next year at the 2004 National OA Conference, where IMS will
be offered again, along with more ceremonial and inductions training,
and ceremonial competition.
