Gathering of Indian Nations
Just
before Saturday's opening show a "Gathering of Indian Nations" was
held directly outside the Hilton Coliseum. Dance competitions will of course
fill the schedule for the remainder of the week for may Arrowmen. However, the intent of this
event was for everyone to have fun, and to display the various styles of dance.
Many of the dancers at this event were not conference participants, but rather Adults and NOAC staff members who will not have a chance to compete during the conference.
Arrowmen were able to get a glimpse
into the art of dance, and fellowship, as a number of dancers took to the ring
to display their talents. Each dance style was called to the ring one-by-one,
and live drum teams provided the beat for the dancers to perform.
No
prizes were awarded at the Gathering of Indian Nations,
though it would be a fair assessment to say that awards of a different type
were in fact received. For the participating dancers, the mere opportunity to
perform was reward enough. For those in attendance, the fellowship, and opportunity
not only to meet new people, but to get a glimpse into the art of Indian Dancing
was a significant reward. Of course, for those that missed the Gathering of Indian Nations,
the Monday night show will feature Indian dancing and a pow-wow is planned
for Founders' Day.
