A Day in the Life of Caleb S.
Page 3 - Evening
When
Caleb sat down with his tray, his dinner included a cup of Coke and a cup of Mountain Dew...typical
15 year old. Dinner conversation centered around picking nick names for each
other from the movie Euro Trip. Caleb received the name Humphrey. After
that, his friends realized how much Caleb knew about Star Wars and
proceeded to quiz him on the finer points of both trilogies. Caleb could answer
every question! For desert, Caleb showed off his ice cream cone making skills,
creating the largest ice cream cone known to man.
When
the ice cream cones had been devoured, it was off to the American Indian Activities
show. Standing outside the entrance with the security guards looking stern,
the Blue Ox Lodge kept their spirits high by singing, joking, and putting people
on their shoulders. When they made it into the Coliseum, it
was well worth the wait since Caleb and his lodge got to sit on the stadium
floor. When the music started, Caleb forgot his sore neck and began "head banging"
again. Once that song ended, it was time for Caleb, a few mascots, and a group
of Arrowmen on the floor to dance the Can-Can. During the show, Caleb watched
attentively, even predicting who would win. Afterward, he said, "I thought the
show was cool...my favorite part was the fancy dancing."
Coming
out of the show, a campus organization had set up a "Belegarth Medieval Combat"
demonstration. After a brief explanation of rules, the ISU students allowed
the Scouts to have a chance at actually using the padded swords and shields.
They had a little time to practice, then divided up into teams and had an all
out Medieval war. Caleb boldly stated, "I killed lots of people, then they teamed
up on me."
While
heading back to his dorm building from the Medieval Combat, Caleb received word
that his Section gathering had been planned for later that night. There he mingled
with old friends and introduced himself to everyone he didn't know while snacking on cookies, pizza, and soda.
He especially enjoyed meeting the Section, Region, and National Officers. He
spoke to them trying to learn about their Scouting career.
One could almost see the wheels spinning in his head as he mapped out his own
plan to become a National Officer. At the end of the night, he hugged
Steve Arisman (1999 & 2000 C-4B Section Chief) and Stith Wiggs (current C-1B Section
Chief) good night.
A
now exhausted Caleb made his way back to his room on the eight floor. Bypassing
the fun of putt-putt golf and the opportunity for late
night Chinese food, he quickly showered and climbed into bed. He fell asleep reflecting
on his action-packed day and dreaming of the excitement that was to come in the morning.
