Many exciting special events are planned for the National Order of the Arrow Conference. Be sure to check for more information and scheduling upon arrival at the NOAC.

VERY IMPORTANT ARROWMEN'S LUNCHEONS

One Arrowman, who has been a member of the Order of the Arrow for less than one (1) year, and his lodge chief or representative, will be invited to attend a private luncheon with other Arrowmen and national leaders of the Order of the Arrow. Luncheons will be held on Monday and Tuesday of the conference, August 3 and 4, respectively.

A special program and guest speakers are planned for the luncheon. The purpose of this special event is to recognize and welcome selected Arrowmen from each lodge and share with them the many exciting aspects of the Order of the Arrow.

Invitations will be in the lodge's registration packet when it checks in at the conference. The lodge chief and his adviser should determine which deserving Arrowmen will be given the opportunity of attending the VIA luncheon.

OA MUSEUM OF MEMORABILIA AND HISTORY

The Special Events Committee will sponsor an OA Museum of Memorabilia at the conference. All Arrowmen and lodges are encouraged to participate in the museum or memorabilia display by bringing along historical items such as old photographs, patches, artifacts, writings, and books to the conference. DUE TO THE VALUABLE NATURE OF MANY OF THESE ITEMS, THE MUSEUM WILL BE IN A SECURE AREA.

The museum will be open to all conference participants on Monday from 1:00 - 5:00 pm and Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Exhibitors will set up their displays on Monday from 8:00 - 11:30 am. ALL MUSEUM ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED BY THE INDIVIDUAL OR LODGE DISPLAYING THE MEMORABILIA BY 6:00 PM ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5.

LODGE HISTORY COMPETITION

To recognize the efforts of local lodges to preserve their history and thereby strengthen local Order of the Arrow traditions, a lodge history competition will be featured at the conference.

Competition Rules:

  1. Each lodge may enter one lodge history publication.
  2. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Lodge histories will be judged on content, writing, layout, printing, originality, and youth involvement. The decision of the judges on all matters will be final.
  3. Lodge histories which are awarded a prize at the 1998 conference will be ineligible for entry in future lodge history competitions. A lodge which enters a prize-winning history may enter a new or significantly updated history in future lodge history competitions.
  4. To enter, a lodge must send two copies of its lodge history, accompanied by one copy of competition application to the chairman of the judge's panel, Nelson R. Block, 1001 Fannin, Suite 3700, Houston, TX 77002-6787. Entries must be postmarked on or before June 1, 1998.
  5. All entries become the property of the National Order of the Arrow Committee.
