OA Scoutreach Mentoring
and Nature Quest
The Witauchsoman Lodge of Minsi Trails Council #502 developed a program
called Nature Quest in 2003 to work with the Scoutreach Mentoring. This program
was continued in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, Nature Quest IV was developed to better
meet the needs of the districts in the council which often held Scoutreach
Mentoring unit activities directly after school. A separate committee in the
lodge was created specifically for Scoutreach Mentoring and an operating budget
was assigned for the year.
With Nature Quest IV, the lodge targeted Scoutreach District events held for
Soutreach Troops and Packs participating in a wide variety of activities. These
activities included pinewood derbies, day camps, and the summer camporee. This
past fall, the youth Arrowmen planned, organized, and ran the Fall Camporee when
it was unlikely to happen. The camporee was a great success and benefited many
of the troops in the council. This forward thinking leadership demonstrated the
OA’s brotherhood of honored campers and ongoing efforts with the Scoutreach
Mentoring program.
